TEACHER TRAINING CENTRE
About The Teacher Training Centre
The first teacher training course in the world was run in 1962 at IH London. It was known as IH Certificate - the qualifications in the teaching of English as a foreign language to adults. It became famous and did much to establish EFL as a recognised discipline. The IH courses became the blueprint for Royal Society of Arts (RSA) who administered the certificate from 1977 to 1988 and thus it became widely known as the "RSA". In 1988 the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) took over responsibility for the administration of the certificate and it was renamed the Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (CTEFLA). In 1996 it was updated and re-named the CELTA.
Our schools in Katowice and Wrocław offer a range of Cambridge Teaching Awards courses, from Cambridge CELTA (IH Katowice and IH Wrocław), Modular DELTA (IH Wrocław) and YL extension courses (IH Katowice), to specialised courses in areas such as Teaching English for Business (IH Wrocław), IHCYL - IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners (IH Wrocław), Skills for Directors of Studies (IH Wrocław) and Neurolinguistic Programming – NLP (IH Wrocław)
We offer competitive prices and great discounts for early applicants and returning customers.
About courses
CELTA
Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults
Who is the course for?
This full-time four-week pre-service training qualification is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter ELT and for teachers with some experience who have no formal training. Success in the CELTA has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position and has long been considered the basic requirement for teaching English to adults in private sector schools worldwide. The course is highly regarded by employers around the world as providing sound, initial training.
Course Content
There are 3 hours of input each day followed by supervised lesson planning, teaching practice (6 hours during the whole course) and feedback on teaching practice. Participants are also required to observe experienced teachers (6 hours during the whole course). Input involves demonstration and discussion of teaching techniques and principles, evaluation of materials and language analysis. Extensive use is made of group discussion and co-operative learning. Specific course content includes:
• learners and teachers in the teaching and learning context, language analysis and awareness,
• language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing,
• planning and resources for different teaching contexts, developing teaching skills and professionalism.
This course is intensive - participants are strongly advised to have no other commitments during the program.
Assessment
Assessment is mainly by continuous assessment of teaching practice. There are also four assessed written assignments.
What will I get at the end of the course?
At the end of the course successful candidates receive a grade (Pass A, Pass B or Pass). In addition to the certificate validated by Cambridge, the centre provides an individual report on progress.
